Counselling

Counselling with me is neuro- and LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma informed, as well as positive and empowering. It offers a safe, warm, non-judgemental and confidential space to process and work through the past, as well as plan and work on change. I work with individuals from 12 years upwards.

We begin by identifying your mental health related objectives, such as being less anxious, coming into terms with and/or understanding your (self)diagnosis, more effective management of stress, feeling more fulfilled or becoming more assertive. We will concentrate on your needs and preferences, making sure that we work in a way that is effective and sustainable for you.

I have a wide knowledge, as well as experience base (please see the “About me” section for more details) to draw from. Therefore, I view myself as an integrative practitioner, who can work with a wide range of people, in all kinds of life stages and situations, and with most kinds of mental health problems, such as anxiety, low mood, mood swings, anger, grief, trauma and burnout. Many of my clients are late diagnosed/identified, and are, thus, also processing how to integrate their neurodivergence with their identities and memories/past selves.

I work in a way that enables my clients to feel validated and heard, as well as helping them gain self-knowledge and ways to manage their challenges. I am a very practical and down-to-earth person, so I am always thinking about possible, practical solutions to support clients in the here and now, as well as working on possible trauma requiring more sustained effort.

Since I am an Art Psychotherapist, I often (when appropriate and agreed on) also use various creative methods in my counselling practice. This can help my clients approach their problems in a different, more personal and, potentially, more effective, way.

I am passionate about supporting and empowering my clients to find their voices, and become more assertive through encouraging this in sessions. Having practiced assertiveness in sessions, the clients can then transfer this practice to the "outside world” and using that, for example, to set important boundaries and ask for reasonable adjustments at studies/work.

Research shows that a good relationship between the counsellor and client is the most important factor in the success of counselling. Therefore, I always aim to cultivate a honest, positive and cooperative relationship with my clients. This means that I support (and expect) my clients to be honest with me and letting me know if they ever need me to clarify anything, or if they disagree with me on something. I don't see myself as an authority, but rather see counselling/therapy as being a cooperative process between two equals, due to the client being an expert in their own issues.

At the moment, I work exclusively online or on the phone, but we can use the communication method easiest for you: Zoom, telephone, text/instant messaging/email, or a mix of these (as/when appropriate).

I don't require an “official” diagnosis to work with you, or your child/young person. I view self identification/diagnosis as entirely valid.

In order to be the most effective, counselling should ideally take place weekly, but we can also consider other intervals if required.
